Understanding human body size and shape is essential to developing products that fit, function, and perform effectively.
WEAR maintains an extensive collection of historical and contemporary anthropometric data supporting product development, sizing systems, ergonomics, applied research, and education.
Our resources include one-dimensional body measurements, three-dimensional body scans, and associated technical documentation from major international research programs.
WEAR maintains more than 50 curated historical one-dimensional anthropometric datasets representing over 130,000 individuals from civilian, military, and occupational populations.
These datasets support sizing analysis, dimensional requirements, ergonomic evaluation, product development, and scientific research.
WEAR provides access to the landmark CAESAR™ (Civilian American and European Surface Anthropometry Resource) collection, encompassing 4,459 individuals from North America, the Netherlands, and Italy.
The collection includes 3D body scans, 3D landmark coordinates, 1D anthropometric measurements, demographic information, and supporting technical documentation. These resources support product fit and sizing, ergonomics, human factors, digital human modeling, and research into human body size and shape.
Each regional collection includes:
The 3D scan and landmark filenames identify the subject and scan pose, allowing users to associate related records.
WEAR has invested considerable effort in cleaning, consolidating, and reorganizing the original CAESAR™ measurement data to make it easier for researchers, designers, and engineers to work with.
For the North American collection, these improvements include:
WEAR has also cleaned and reorganized the Italian and Netherlands measurement datasets to improve their accessibility and usability.
As with large-scale human measurement surveys, some CAESAR™ subject records contain missing or incomplete data. This may result from scanner malfunctions, misplaced landmark markers, recording errors, or other circumstances encountered during data collection.
Not every subject has a complete set of scans, landmark coordinates, measurements, and demographic variables. In addition, 3D landmark coordinates were not extracted from the seated C pose.
Subject counts represent individuals included in the original survey and do not guarantee complete data for every variable or scan pose.
WEAR combines the original CAESAR™ research resources with improved organization of the accompanying measurement information, helping customers move more efficiently from data access to practical applications.
The complete collection is available for purchase, along with separate regional collections for North America, the Netherlands, and Italy.
Due to the large size of the CAESAR™ collection, purchased data will be transferred to a USB storage drive and shipped directly to the customer.
The USB drive will contain the purchased collection, including available 3D body scans, 3D landmark coordinates, 1D anthropometric measurements, demographic information, and supporting technical documentation.
WEAR's data resources support applications including apparel and protective equipment, workplace design, consumer products, and human-centered engineering.
Selected datasets and 3D scan collections are available through WEAR membership or separate licensing arrangements.
Availability, documentation, licensing terms, and permitted uses vary by collection.
